PRISONERS CARE PROGRAMME

PAST ACTIVITIES

Prisoners Care Programme was registered in July, 03.

  • August, 03 we managed to give 444 cartons of coldrex Nite to prisons valued at over Kshs. 3M. which had been donated by GaxoSmithKline. (attached is the letter of donation)
  • In February, 04 School web Ltd donated 600 computers to us (attached is the certificate of donation) which we have plans to install some in community Centers, prisons remand, probation Hostels and juvenile homes. The donation was officially received by Hon. Linah Jebii Kilimo Minister of State, Office of the Vice President, Ministry Home Affairs. On 26th March,04 this year we donated some 10 computers to Naivasha Maximum Prison which were received by the Vice President His Exellency Hon. Moody Awori and we are in the process of setting a pilot ICT there.
  • On 8th March,04,the International Day for Women all over the world, we received donation of assorted gifts e.g. sanitary towels soaps, toilet papers etc from the Hindu Council of Kenya – women chapter which we in turn donated to Langata Women prison.

  • We have visited the Probation Hostels in Nakuru, Nairobi and Mombasa. The hostels are accommodated by young offenders and we are looking forward with well-wishers and donors to facilitate ICT. Prisoners Care Programme will donate the computers as we partner with the well-wishers to assist financially for the trainers and maintenance.
  • On 21st -23rd June, 04 we organized a strategic capacity building seminar for the stakeholders in aftercare services to Ex-prisoners which was officially opened by the Commissioner of Prisons Mr. Abraham Kamakil.
  • On 30th October, 04 we held a 4km walk from Jogoo House to Industrial Area Remand Prison, the walk was flagged off by the Commissioner of Prisons Mr. Abraham Kamakil, thereafter His Excellency the Vice President opened our pilot first class library in that prison.Our intention is to set libraries in all the 93 prisons and the Juvenile centers.
  • July, 05 Visited Nakuru Girls Host for Juvennile Prisoners and donated assorted gifts plus books for establishing a Library. Kayamba Africa was with us for entertainment.
  • The year 2006 we, Prisoners Care Programme felt the need to start the Prisons Water Resource Program. This is a project aimed at provision of sustainable water at all the 92 prisons and detention centres nationwide including rehabilitation of water and sanitation infrastructures.The project involves:- i) sinking a well or a borehole in each prison and detention centre,ii) construction of sufficient water storage facilities, iii) provide adequate safe water and sanitation for prisoners in all the facilities, iv)rehabilitate the waste-water, sanitation systems and septic tanks and v) train the warders and prisoners maintenance of the facilities.
  • The main objectives of Prisons Water Resource Program proposed by Prisoners Care Programme (hereinafter referred to as “PCP”) is to:- a) Facilitate a sustainable supply of clean wter for prisoners and detainees, b) Improve hygiene and sanitation for prisoners and detainees, c) Rehabilitate the waste-water and sanitation systems and septic tanks at prisons and detention centres, and d) generally improve the living standards and health of prisoners and detainees.
  • June, 06 we visited the G.K Prisons Nakuru. Prisoners Care Programme in collaboration with the Living Water International sunk a borehole. This is our pilot Water Resource Program Project.
